DETH SPECULA AT SCO FORUM
We'll be opening for Big Bang Beat at this year's SCO Forum. At
last, a reason to attend the Tuesday night party at UCSC. It'll
be in the Cowell Patio. We'll play really loud, scream a lot,
and smash some computers. We were hoping to drive a bus through
a wall of monitors, but there is no way to get up enough speed
with a bus in the dance area (Dennis Hopper's new movie
notwithstanding), so we're going to use a tricycle.
Looks like we'll have two new parody songs for the show, and we
may rewrie some lyrics for one or two of our old favorites ("I
think I'm speaking legalese, I think I'm speaking legalese, I
really think so ....")
DETH SPECULA LIVE ON THE INTERNET
- 7:45pm to 8:30pm PDT
- Tuesday, August 23rd.
Strum Baby. Deth Specula will be performing a live audio/video
MBONE broadcast of the gig at the SCO Forum. Our music and
antics will go out to the entire world. Talk about critical use
of the net bandwidth!
We'll keep you posted on where to tune for the broadcast.
We are also hoping to simulcast this on VAT (Internet) radio and
have a live feed available via World-Wide Web at IUMA:
http://www.iuma.com/
SPECULA ON CD
Well, it's not what you think. An excerpt of the Deth Specula
classic "Updated" is going to be on the Skunkworks 2.0 CD being
produced by SCO for distribution to SCO customers and fans.
Besides two-gritty minutes of Specula music, the Skunkworks CD
will feature a bunch of software, some video stuff, and other
things that Ron Record and Dion Johnson think is cool.
The purpose of the CD is to demonstrate some of the cool things
that can be done on SCO systems. And what is cooler than a
Specula tune?
OJ SIMPSON SONG CONTEST
Not.
Malcom wanted to do a contest soliciting lyrics and ideas for a
song about OJ. But the rest of the band deep-sixed the idea.
They said it was tasteless. Fooey. Malcom never gets to have any
fun.
GIG REVIEW: SPECULA IN THE BACKYARDS OF SANTA CRUZ
We came, we were seen, we played. Malcom forgot his guitar for
one gig (but was rescued by one of Yam's friends with a loaner
Telecaster; nice guitar).
Then Yam un-redeemed himself by forgetting the time of the
subsequent gig at Larry's Revel Alliance party. Donations for a
personal secretary (sorry, administrative assistant) for Yam can
be sent to the Deth Specula snail mail address below.
The Revel Alliance also saw Larry Colen's angry neighbors
descend on his backyard armed with sawed-off pitchforks,
Saturday Night Special beer, and semi-automatic rotting
vegetables to tell us to turn down damnit. But we won over the
crowd of one-toothed, overall-wearing dope growers with our
maximum volume music. The neighbors liked it, too. However, one
particularly surly caller threatened us with The Police. I don't
know about you, but I am sick to deth of hearing Zenatta
Mondatta, so we turned down a bit towards the end.
Do-doo-doo-dooo, da da-da-da, is all I ever get from them
anyway.
The evening ended with a pyrotechnic display by John Dubois and
friend, who almost burned down the entire San Lorenzo Valley
chasing each other around with flaming spray cans. Timmy also
scored a 14-year-old groupie, but what else is new.
Revel Alliance show-openers Avalon Rising were most excellent.
They played two cool sets of Gaelic Rock. Malcom sez "check 'em out."
NEWS FROM THE FORMER SOVIET UNION
We got some e-mail from one Dmitri Bender, who runs an
alternative music program on the only radio station in the city
of Izhevsk (pop. 800,000) in the Udmurt Republic, Russia. The
Russians are hip to alternative music, something a
centrally-planned economy is not particularly adept at
providing. Tapes are on their way to the Udmurt Republic even as
you read this. We'll keep you posted on any Russian tour dates.
